LESSONS KOM AUSTRALIA: STRATEGIES FOR GENDER EQUITY POLICY
by Catherine Marshall
Suppose you want to be an activist for gender equity in education in the
United States. What can be learned from Australia's experience developing
gender equity education policy (GEP)? Australia has advanced gender equity
where other countries' policy systems have produced symbolic and under-funded
policies, or even left the issues unattended (Marshall 'Undomesticated";
Stromquist "Sex Equity"). This paper will offer an analysis of the context
and appearance of gender equity policy in Australia, suggest strategies
for analyzing the status of GEP in the United States, and describe promising
techniques learned from the Australian model.
