Christian, B. Marie. Belief in Dialogue: U.S. Latina Writers Confront Their Religious Heritage. New York: Other Press, 2005. 253 pp.

by Sobeira Latorre

B. Marie Christian's book on Latina spirituality and religiosity makes a significant contribution to the fields of feminist and Latino studies. The book includes an insightful introduction by the series editor Samir Dayal. It participates in an ongoing dialogue among contemporary feminist and cultural critics that explores the multiple ways in which women represent themselves and their communities. Christian's book also makes a noteworthy contribution to feminist pedagogy and would be a great addition to feminist courses centered around questions of the relationship between religion and the family, the connections between colonialism and the church, the interconnections among class, race, gender, ethnicity, and religion, and the relationship between women and political and social activism.
